Z Block head

Is the war over? No it’s not, actually.

Doing It Yourself has always been the best way for artists to get the lion’s share of the profits from their work. Simply put, Z Block is a DIY label providing a brand that can unite the otherwise disparate band of artists who want to sell their own material, initially, music CDs.

Now, with the benefits of the internet, e-mail and secure online sales, DIY really is a ‘no brainer’. Even major artists are moving away from the old order and successfully selling their output without any interference from those money-grabbing scum buckets.

Z Block is a non-profit label providing anyone who wants it with the means to sell their art. There are no contracts, Z Block owns none of the rights and all the artists involved are free to make whatever contractual agreements they like with any other labels, distributors, publishers etc. The artists retain all the rights to their products, all royalties and total control over its use.

Z Block 2006 Rationale

Minimise the costs of production, maximise the artists’ income.
This reincarnation of Z Block Records was inspired by the fact that several of the ‘old school’ artists own and control much of their own material. Why are we hanging around waiting for someone else to exploit our work?

How it works - Plan A

  1. Record some sounds
  2. Burn some CDs
  3. Package the CDs
  4. Promote the CD via the internet

How it works - Plan B

    1. Record some sounds
    2. Get 20 people to buy the limited edition DIY version
    3. Use the proceeds to press 100 CDs
    4. Credit the original sponsors
    5. Promote the CD via the internet

DIY products don't have to look or sound like corporate products - OK, you're not likely to get a number 1 album doing it this way but, if there is the demand, you can always offer downloads or go for larger scale duplication.
